If
you don't needlepoint, you may be tired of scrolling through 6 pages
of canvas designs to find the cross stitch sale items. To
narrow your search, visit the Search page and select
Advanced Search, then select Needlepoint as the Category, then go to
the bottom of the page and check the box for Sale prices only.
Voila! This works for any category!

We're moving to Washington
|
| |
Discountneedlework is moving to the Pacific Northwest.
Former employee Leigh has decided to buy the business and move
it to her new home in the Seattle, Washington area. Great
news for our California customers, but it does mean slightly
greater delays getting yarn in house, since it ships from
Massachusetts.
Please give Leigh some time to settle in. Everything
went into boxes on December 20 and she will reopen for shipping
after the holidays.

increases |

While the rest of the world reels under the recession, unable to
raise prices, the shipping business continues with its 5%
per year rate hikes. UPS has announced an increase
effective January 1, while the postal service usually raises
their rates in the spring. We held shipping rates down in
2009 but we had to increase 5% for 2010 or lose our shirt on
shipping. We have run out of ways to make shipping more
efficient without raising rates. The new website will have
some increased functionality that we hope will include weight
based instead of flat rate shipping based on the value of the
order. For now, though, we have raised our rates 5% across
the board, as will many small companies. |

in Yarn supply update |

The sustained economic downturn has caused widespread
unforeseen problems for the craft industry. Our only
yarn vendor purchases bulk yarn from a broker who gets it from
New Zealand. He has cut back on his purchases (perhaps
there is not as much demand in his other wool accounts).
Because of that, our vendor can't always get wool ready to
dye. Unlike in prior years, when colors were always
readily available, our vendor runs out of colors and then
cannot dye more because the raw wool is just not available.
This is not our fault, we carry the full line of colors,
and we carry more than 1 quarter pound of the popular
colors. That is more than most shops. However, we
cannot predict when a customer will need a large quantity of a
particular color. Even white is occasionally out of stock,
though not for long, since natural wool isn't white and does
need to be dyed for consistency. Where possible, we are
going to recommend substitute colors if it will speed
delivery. Otherwise, we all need to be patient. This
isn't heart transplants, lives don't depend on getting wool
right away. If time is of the essence, you are welcome
to seek supplies in other places.
Please understand again that there is not much we can do
about this, as the situation has been caused by the continuing
recession.
